The Healing Power

ree

In today's world, it can be easy to lose sight of who God has called us to be. We are human, which means we are flawed, and the thing is, God already knows this, but He reaches out to us anyway. Consider a shy girl with a past of destruction and internal torment. Moving from one source of love to the next, chasing something that could never be fulfilled. The doctors told her she was bipolar II, but the medications didn't help, the people around her didn't understand, and slowly she fell deeper into the valley, with no hope of ever coming out. What if I told you that the same girl showed up today, healed and made whole? That is the healing power, the power of the blood.

Luke 8:46-48 says "And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace."

Pause for a moment to take that in.

When first reading, with knowledge that Jesus is in a crowded place, the first thought that comes to mind is how many people were pushing against Jesus, but He felt that one woman. The next thought was the intention of respect she showed Jesus in not touching His person, considering her condition, but also what she tried to do in secret turned public. Imagine reaching to touch Jesus in hopes of being healed without being noticed, and then you're caught. The amount of shame and fear that would wash over you. Stick with me...

Even trembling, she doesn't lie or run. She falls to her knees and explains her case, declaring she is healed.

First, the immediate nature of healing that takes place is nothing short of supernatural and amazing. It is confirmation that we serve a God of signs and wonders, and just how mighty He is.

Second, in that moment, it is a declaration of faith and perseverance. She was weak but knew Jesus could heal her and proceeded with unwavering faith, no matter the consequence.

Third, Jesus called her out publicly, not to shame her, but to acknowledge her faith. He brings her out of hiding. To know that in a world where everyone else disregards you and throws you away, Jesus sees you and shows you great kindness and compassion. He doesn't dismiss you or reprimand you, but calls you daughter instead. He reaffirms it was her faith that allowed her access to His healing power (If you all could only hear my praise!)

We all fall short of grace. I haven't met a human yet that doesn't sin every day (myself included). It is in the act of repenting with a sincere heart and waking up the next day, choosing to do better, that brings you back into alignment with who God called you to be.

It is our faith and consistency that allows us to be brought out of the darkest places...that allows us to be healed. There is no shame in falling, but there is glory in getting back up. No matter what you go through, how difficult the situation, He is always there, ready and waiting to help you rise. Call on the name Jesus and let the spirit guide you; you will be amazed at the transformation that takes place.
