The Lord Knows My Heart: A Reminder of Intimacy, Not Excuse

ree

In theme with phrases we often speak or hear – today’s phrase is “the Lord knows my heart”. This has always been one of my favorites, even in my lowest moments, but, depending on the context, it can offer comfort or conviction.

When I go to talk to God, in moments when my words failed me, I would often say, "Lord, hear my heart’s cry." It was those moments that fostered the deepest connection and truly made me feel seen when no one else could understand.

In 1 Samuel 16:7, the Lord told Samuel that man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

This offers a reminder that God sees beyond the surface. He knows our intentions and longing behind every prayer. He sees our motives, desires, and the struggles we battle in the darkest corners.

This brings comfort because even when we fall short, when we are unable to find the words, God sees us and understands the cries and longing behind our silence.

This also means that the Lord sees the truth. There is no acting when it comes to God because even if you don’t speak it, He already knows it.

Saying the Lord knows my heart isn’t a free pass or a license to live with excuses. Every day is an opportunity to reevaluate ourselves and wake up with the intention to be better than we were yesterday. It is an opportunity to live a life that will make the Lord rejoice and invite Him to transform you into who He called you to be.

Psalm 139: 23-24 says Search me, O God, and know my heart:

Try me, and know my thoughts:

And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

When we say, “The Lord knows my heart,” let’s mean it as a declaration of intimacy, not as a defense for imperfection. Let it be a reminder that we are known, loved, and continually being shaped by His Spirit.

The beautiful, most amazing thing is that Jesus meets us where we are and doesn’t leave us there. If you allow it, every day He molds our hearts in His likeness.

PRAYER

Lord, You know my heart better than I ever could.

You see my motives, my fears, my hopes, and my hidden faults.

Search me, purify me, and shape my heart to reflect Yours.

Help me to live not just as one who is known by You, but as one who honors You in all things.

In Jesus name, amen.
